Approved by the Ministry of Education (MOE), Huaqiao University (HQU) has become one of the pilot universities of Chinese Government Scholarship for preparatory education program. This year, 66 international students from 28 countries including Angola, Uzbekistan, Mongolia, Bangladesh, Laos, etc. were enrolled in this program. It marks another significant progress in HQU's education for international students after the university was designated by the Chinese Teaching Base of Overseas Chinese Affairs Office of the PRC State Council and the Ministry of Education as one of the Key Institutions of Chinese Teaching in Support of Neighboring Countries.
To ensure the teaching quality and improve the benefits of Chinese Government Scholarship for undergraduate program, the MOE has stipulated that international applicants with no command of Chinese take college preparatory courses before pursuing professional studies since 2010.
The preparatory program aims to enhance the Chinese proficiency, relevant professional knowledge and intercultural communication competence of international students to meet the requirements of higher education in China after one year's preparatory courses. In this year, students will be learning Chinese and improving the basic knowledge on mathematics, physics, chemistry, etc.
