On July 1st, 2019, Government of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region of the People’s Republic of China (HKSAR) released this year’s Honours list. Albert Hung Chao-hong, Vice chairman of Huaqiao University (HQU) Board of Directors, was awarded Grand Bauhinia Medal, becoming one of the two recipients of the city's top honour of this year. Upon hearing the good news, Xu Xipeng, President of HQU, sent a letter of congratulations to him to express sincere congratulations on behalf of the university.
Albert Hung has always been supportive of overseas Chinese education. He donated money for the construction of "Hong Zuhang Building" in HQU and facilitated HQU's affairs in Hong Kong, making significant contributions to the development of HQU.
The Grand Bauhinia Medal, introduced in 1997, is the highest award under the Hong Kong honours and awards system. It is to recognize the selected person’s lifelong and highly significant contribution to the well-being of Hong Kong.
