An unveiling ceremony for the National Engineering Research Center for the Intelligent Manufacturing Technology of Brittle Materials and Products was held on June 3rd, 2019, at Xiamen campus of Huaqiao University (HQU). It is the university's first state-level platform for science and technology innovations.
Attending the ceremony were Prof. Ding Han, member of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and Dean of the School of Mechanical Science and Engineering of Huazhong University of Science and Technology, Wang Qiaoli, Associate Counsellor of Xiamen Development and Reform Commission, and HQU President Xu Xipeng and Vice President Wu Jihuai.
The Center is affiliated with HQU's Institute of Manufacturing Engineering and College of Mechanical Engineering and Automation. Aiming to promote the R&D of key and core intelligent manufacturing technologies of brittle materials and products and the transformation of scientific and technological achievements into real productive forces as well, the Center is dedicated to removing the key technology bottlenecks in the industrial development and constructing an R&D platform with independent intellectual property rights and innovation, through which, it hopes to boost traditional major industries in the Western Taiwan Straits Economic Zone, such as electronic information and manufacturing of brittle materials and products like stone materials, achieve the structural adjustment and upgrades of these industries in the region, and furthermore, improve the competitiveness of China's brittle materials and products and instruments in the international market. Director of the Center will be President Xu Xipeng, who is also a doctoral supervisor and recipient of the National Science Fund for Distinguished Young Scholars.
Xu Xipeng issues Letter of Appointment to Academician Ding Han as Director of the Academic Committee of the Center.
The same day, the Center also held the first meeting of the Academic Committee, where scholars and experts counseled the further planning and construction of the Center. Academician Ding Han then gave a special lecture on "Robots and the Intelligent Manufacturing Technology".
