On May 28th, Zeng Lu, Vice-President of Huaqiao University (HQU) and Adam Jelonek, plenipotentiary of the President of External Affairs of Jagiellonian University in Krakow (JU) signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to collaborate on research and students and staff exchange programmes. Leaders of Office of International Exchange and Cooperation, Department of Chinese Language and Culture Education and College of International Relations were present at the ceremony.
Professor Jelonek also delivered a keynote speech on "The Chinese-Poland Relations Past and Present under the Belt and Road Initiative'’. Currently he is the Head of Institute of the Middle and Far East of JU in Krakow and the Asia Adviser of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (Poland), and he used to be the ambassador extraordinary and plenipotentiary of Poland in Malaysia, Brunei and the Philippines.
Founded in 1364 and with a history of 655 years, Jagiellonian University in Krakow is the oldest university in Poland and one of the oldest in the world. The university has a strong and solid scientific research background, which makes it one of the most important scientific research bases in the Europe. At present, it has 16 faculties and 73 majors, with more than 4 thousand academic staff and over 40 thousand students. In 2006, it found the Confucius Institute in Krakow, the first Confucius Institute in Poland.
