On the morning of April 1st, 2019, the Chinese Language Summer Camp for Chinese Filipino Students, jointly organized by Fujian Association for International Friendly Contact, Philippine Chinese Education Research Center (PCERC) and the Tan Yan Kee Foundation, and sponsored by Lucio Tan, Chairman of the Philippine Airlines (PLA) and the Tan Yan Kee Foundation as well as Vice Chairman of the Board of Trustees of Huaqiao University (HQU), was launched at the newly-opened Lucio Tan Building in HQU. The 1042 participants in the project will start their study journey in Fujian Province for almost two months.
At the ceremony, students in HQU performed the 24 Festival Drums, Chinese martial arts, Chinese Guqin and Philippine folk dances for the campers.
The camp is to integrate Chinese language learning with cultural experience, teaching the teenagers Chinese martial arts, traditional Chinese painting, music, calligraphy and handicraft as well as Chinese language. Courses will be offered in four participating schools, including Huaqiao University, Jimei University, Quanzhou Normal University and Quanzhou Southern Shaolin International School.
