On March 12th, faculty and students from Huaqiao University observed the Arbor Day by planting trees on both campuses. The theme for this year's event is Planting Green Trees, Creating Civilized Campuses. Nearly 100 HQUers, including school leaders Liu Gong, Liu Bin, Peng Pei and Bi Mingqiang, Assistant to the President Zhang Yunbo, and representatives of administration staff, young teachers, overseas students and student volunteers, worked jointly to plant 80-plus trees at Zijing Garden on Quanzhou campus, and Xieshi Garden and Man-Made River on Xiamen campus.
The newly planted bauhinia blakeana, lagerstroemia indica, willows, etc., have added more greenness to the campuses. The participants followed the instruction of professionals from the logistics and got down to work in groups. They dug holes with shovels, placed the trees into the holes, and then back-filled the holes. Bustling with activity, all were performed in a meticulous and organized way.
The university has always valued campus landscaping, hoping it would better the environment, contribute to the academic atmosphere, and promote environmental awareness. The annual Arbor Day event takes the opportunity to encourage tree planting among HQUers and popularize related knowledge, in an attempt to improve their cultural attainment, and foster their awareness of campus beautification and caring for green plants.
