From December 8th to 9th, 2018 HUAWEI Cup - the 15th China Post-Graduate Mathematical Contest in Modeling was held at Ocean University of China. Postgraduates from Huaqiao University (HQU) have won a first prize, seven second prizes and six third prizes, ranking first among all the universities from Fujian province. The first prize winner is a team comprised of Cui Ziwei and Chen Delei, from College of Computer Science and Technology, and Hu Hao, from College of Mechanical and Engineering Automation.
Co-hosted by China Academic Degrees & Graduate Education Development Center (CDGDC) and Children & Youth Science Center China Association for Science & Technology (CYSC), the event is one of the major competitions in China Postgraduate Innovation & Practice Competitions (CPIPC). Focusing on the application of mathematical modeling, it provides a platform for postgraduate students to improve their capacity in building mathematical models and solving practical problems via information technology, and to enhance their innovative ability in scientific research and build team spirit as well.
A total of 12,211 teams with 36,633 postgraduate students, from 474 domestic universities as well as 14 foreign universities, including Cornell University and National University of Singapore, signed up for the competition. Altogether 4,358 teams were awarded the prize, of which 184 were first prize winners, accounting for 1.5 % of all teams.
