On the evening of December 8th, Chinese Language and Culture College (CLCC) of Huaqiao University held the 2018 Loy Krathong Festival at Jimei Dragon Boat Pool to celebrate the 5th anniversary of the Belt and Road (B&R) Initiative.
Over 300 students from B&R countries like Thailand, Indonesia, Laos, the Philippines, Vietnam and Mongolia gathered together for the traditional Thai festival. As one of the activities of the 2nd Jimei School Village Culture and Art Festival, the event also attracted nearly 100 teachers and students to have a taste of the exotic culture.
Thai students set up stalls at the venue, selling special food and beverages from their homeland and elaborating fete activities, so that the crowd could know more about Thai culture and have a bite of Thai food.
Non-governmental exchanges between the two countries have greatly promoted mutual understanding and friendship of Thai and Chinese people, said Ms. Karntimon Ruksakiati, Consul General of the Consulate General of Thailand in Xiamen, as she expressed her thanks to Huaqiao University and Thai students for their support and contribution.
In recent years, to inherit traditional Chinese culture and blend multinational cultures, CLCC has forged a number of brand activities, such as Elegance of Chunghwa Classic Recital by Overseas Students, Maritime Silk Road Culture Camp, Southeast Asian Water Festival and Thai Loy Krathong Festival, which help to promote culture exchanges and strengthen people-to-people ties among students from the B&R countries.
