The 29th Work Exchange Meeting of Four Universities funded by Overseas Chinese was held in Shantou University (STU) on the morning of December 3rd. Representatives from Jinan University (JNU), Huaqiao University (HQU), Shantou University (STU) and Ningbo University (NBU) got together to discuss the development of overseas Chinese-funded universities and the Belt and Road (B&R) construction.
Xu Xipeng, President of HQU, led a team to attend the meeting and delivered a keynote speech themed with "Jointly Sharing New Opportunities Brought by B&R and Composing a New Chapter in the Development of Universities for Overseas Chinese". Xu mentioned the B&R construction is a new opportunity for these four universities, who can give full play to its advantages of internationalization and Overseas Chinese affairs, in accordance with the spirit of Silk Road --- equality, mutual benefit and win-win cooperation. With such a solid collaboration, "the 21st Century Maritime Silk Road League of Universities for Overseas Chinese" can be co-established so as to play a pivotal role in Overseas Chinese higher education, to promote the exchanges and cooperation in talent cultivation, research cooperation, think tank construction and cultural communication among B&R countries and regions, to jointly serve the B&R construction. This initiative was fully supported by other universities.
The work exchange meeting would be held alternately among four universities every year and the next one would be in HQU in 2019.
