Unprecedented: HQU to the Champion of 3x3 World University League - 2018 Finals

November 18^th, host team Huaqiao University of China emerged as champion of the 3x3 World University League - 2018 Finals after victory over McGuill University of Canada, becoming the first in China to take the men's title of the event.

Earlier that afternoon, Tsinghua University hoisted the title on the women's side. Thus, China became the biggest winner this year.

The tournament closed on the 18^th after four days of heated competition. With Huaqiao University of China and Tsinghua University of China winning the champion, McGuill University of Canada and Vasyl Stefanyk University of Ukraine finished runner-up in men’s and women's field respectively, while the third place went to Vytautas Magnus University of Lithuania and Chinese Culture University of Chinese Taipei.

Maja Jakobčič from University of Ljubljana, Slovenia, won the shootout contest for women, while Ernastas Sederevicius from Vytautus Magnus University of Lithuanian came first in the men's slam-dunk contest.

It was the host team that stole the show this year. HQU cruised into the final with an undefeated record of 21:7, 21:11, 22:4, 21:9, 21:8 and 21:12 before securing the championship title.

FISU President Oleg Matytsin, FISU Vice President and FUSC Vice President Yang Liguo, HQU President Xu Xipeng and HQU Vice Presidents Liu Gong and Peng Pei attended the closing ceremony held that evening, and presented awards to the winning teams and athletes. The ceremony was hosted by HQU Vice President Wu Jihuai.

Xu and Matytsin delivered a speech respectively and expressed their thanks to the host, organizers, co-organizers and sponsors, and to referees, athletes, staff, volunteers and friends from the press for their contributions to the event.

The 2018 Finals was hosted by FISU and organized by FUSC and HQU. From November 15^th to 18^th, 32 top university teams from 24 countries and regions of 5 continents converged at HQU’s Xiamen campus for the tournament.
