Release time:2018-10-12      Author:Zhang Weijian

The Maritime Silk Road Culture Camp of Root-Seeking Tour for overseas Chinese teens 2018 was launched at Huaqiao University on October 12th. 187 overseas Chinese teachers and students from Thailand, Myanmar, Indonesia and Malaysia will visit Quanzhou and Xiamen of Fujian Province to experience the culture of Maritime Silk Road.

In the 15-day camp, they are to learn traditional Chinese culture, attend lectures on the culture of Maritime Silk Road and engage themselves in a variety of activities the university organizes. These include a visit to colleges at both Quanzhou and Xiamen campuses to explore one-to-one cooperative learning with HQU students and to construct a learning platform between them. Another stop will be the communities and middle schools, where they can learn about developments in urban and rural areas brought by the reform and opening-up. They won't miss the "four new great inventions" --- high-speed rail, e-commerce, Alipay and shared bike. They will also go to places of interest in Fujian such as Mount Wuyi and Kulangsu, and companies like Anta and Xiamen C&D for a taste of the beautiful scenery, long history and modern vitality of their ancestral country.

The current event is co-hosted by the Overseas Chinese Affairs Office of the State Council and China Overseas Exchange Association, and organized by Huaqiao University. Since 1999, the Root-seeking Tour to China has been held worldwide for overseas Chinese teens to learn more about their ancestral country, strengthen their emotional connection, pick up Chinese language and even inherit and spread the culture.
