On July 20th, Huaqiao University (HQU) launched China Culture Tours Summer Camp 2018 and the project of carrying forward intangible cultural heritage for overseas Chinese students. Nearly 300 students from Hong Kong, Macao, Taiwan and other countries including North Korea, Laos, Myanmar, Thailand, the Philippines, Malaysia, Indonesia, Ukraine, Austria, Kenya, Mauritius participated in the launching ceremony.
During the 7-day trip, the students will visit both the natural and cultural heritages, call on the inheritors of the intangible cultural heritage, set foot on some museums, universities and enterprises, and attend lectures on historical culture as well as seminars on the reform and opening-up in Beijing, Hebei, Sichuan, Shanxi, Hubei, Hunan, Henan, Shandong, Jiangsu and Zhejiang.
On the ceremony, Ke Yujing, the student representative from Malaysia and the owner of the Presidential Special Award of HQU, shared her experience of the tour: "It is not only a cultural tour for me but also a spiritual trip. It wakens my rooted cultural identity as an overseas Chinese. I can't help saying that it is a great masterpiece worthy of learning and I have learned a lot from each spot."
Since 1980s, greatly supported by Overseas Chinese Affairs Office of the State Council, HQU has organized China Culture Tours Summer Camp named Roots in China for overseas Chinese students annually. This year, there are six camps focusing on Bashu Culture, Sanqin Culture, Jingchu Culture, Central Plains Culture, Qilu Culture and Wuyue Culture respectively.
