President Xu Xipeng Leads Delegation to Thailand and Laos

      From August 7th to 14th, President Xu Xipeng led a delegation to Thailand and Laos. The trip included presence at the 7th Thai-Chinese Strategic Research Seminar, visits to Thai-Chinese Culture and Economy Association, the National Legislative Assembly of Thailand, Kasetsart University, Walailak University, Thailand's Royal Police Cadet Academy, Embassy of the People's Republic of China in the Kingdom of Thailand, Embassy of the People's Republic of China in the Lao People's Democratic Republic and Lieutou Chinese School in Vientiane, Laos, and attendance at the celebrations of HQU Alumni Association in Thailand and Laos.  

      On the morning of August 10th, an inauguration was held for Thailand Research Expo 2018 and the 7th Thai-Chinese Strategic Research Seminar. Her Royal Highness Princess Sirindhorn and Thailand's Deputy Prime Minister Prajin Juntong were also present.

      The same afternoon, the delegation attended the opening ceremony of the 7th Thai-Chinese Strategic Research Seminar. Xu Xipeng noted fruitful results in various fields in the cooperation between HQU and all sectors in Thailand. He also appreciated the contributions made by co-hosts National Research Council of Thailand and Thai-Chinese Culture and Economy Association for their efforts in the previous and present seminars.

      Both sides recalled their cooperation in Foreign Government Officials’ Chinese Class and Thai-Chinese Strategic Research Seminar during the exchanges between Xu and Dr. Bhokin Bhalakula, president of Thai-Chinese Culture and Economy Association, and vice president Nikom Wairatpanij.

      At the National Legislative Assembly, the two sides also discussed the prospect of cultivating more talents in Chinese language for the Assembly, through programs such as the Foreign Government Officials' Chinese Class provided by HQU, and Chinese Course for Assembly members offered by the Confucius Institute at Kasetsart University.

      At Kasetsart University, the two parties discussed their further cooperation and reached agreements on broad issues. They agreed to renew contracts on cooperation and co-construction of Confucius Institute, encourage student and faculty exchanges and enhance cooperation in culture, tourism and music. KU hoped that they could send Thai language teachers and music teachers to HQU.

      The delegation visited the Confucius Institute at KU. Xu Xipeng praised their achievements over the past decade. He also encouraged them to unlock potential and spare no efforts to increase their impact at Kasetsart University and improve school facilities.

      The delegation held discussions with Walailak University, a public university in the southern Thailand, and achieved consensus as expected on Chinese teaching, teacher training, graduate education and undergraduate exchanges. The two sides also expected a MoU soon to promote effective exchanges and cooperation.

      Thai-Chinese Culture and Economy Association also arranged a tour to Thailand's Royal Police Cadet Academy. The delegation visited some teaching establishments such as Criminal Investigation Labs and the Shooting Range in the Academy.

      At the Chinese Embassy in Thailand, Xu introduced Minister Counsellor Yang Xin to major cooperation between HQU and Thailand. Yang hoped that HQU would fill this unique niche in promoting exchanges between China and Thailand.

      At the Chinese Embassy in Laos, Xu briefed Ambassador Wang Tianwen on Lao students at HQU and Lao officials at Foreign Government Officials' Chinese Class. Wang hoped HQU would continue to play a unique role in cultivating talents for China-Laos friendship.

      On the morning of August 11th, Xu Xipeng and the delegates attended the inauguration of the 6th Council of HQU Alumni Association in Thailand. Counselor Zhang Donghao, Thai’s former deputy PM and Honorary Adviser of the Association Trairong Suwankiri, and HQU Board of Directors Luo Zongzheng, Zhang Xiangsheng and Zhang Yongqing were invited to the ceremony. 100-plus alumni across Thailand attended the gathering.

      During the visit to Lieutou Chinese School in Vientiane, Laos, an important partner of HQU, Xu Xipeng commended the school for its accomplishment on education. Both sides exchanged their views on graduate education and Lao officials attending HQU Foreign Officials' Chinese Class.
