"Our true mission is to promote Chinese culture, and a contest like this is where our passion lies." said Liu Miaomiao, a junior student of Chinese Language and Culture College, with deep emotion when entering the Chinese Character Culture Contest of HQU for the second time.

The 4th Chinese Character Culture Contest of HQU was held in the Science Hall of Tan Kah Kee Auditorium on the evening of June 5th. Armed with their knowledge of Chinese characters, students from home and abroad formed teams with distinctive characteristics and competed on the same stage.

Six teams made it into the final, representing respectively Chinese Language and Culture College, College of Humanities, Business School, School of Law, College of Material Science and Engineering and overseas students. All six teams were then ranked according to their performance in 6 challenges, namely ancient character identification, knowledge about culture and history, word chain, Chinese character writing, picture description and riddles of Chinese characters.

In the contest, with its outstanding performance, Team Da Cheng Ruo Que (true perfection seems imperfect) from Business School, won huge applause from the audience and was in the lead most of the time. Defending champion, Team Wang Shu (coachman for the Chinese moon goddess) from Chinese Language and Culture College was also a force to be reckoned with. It followed closely behind the leading team before evening up the score, which led to a tie-breaker battle. In the end, Team Da Cheng Ruo Que from Business School won the first prize, while the second prize was awarded to Team Wang Shu from Chinese Language and Culture College and Team Fei Ju (mythical animal in ancient China) from College of Humanities. The third prize went to Team Fa Li Wu Bian (law is almighty) from School of Law, Team Liu Chen Hou (Chinese surnames) of overseas students and Team Chui Tian (great ambition) from College of Material Science and Engineering.
